Asian Secret

This quilt was my 2006 entry into the National Orchid Society Quilting Contest. This was the 3rd National Contest I had entered and this time, my work was rewarded with a prize! This quilt took 2nd Place! |

I digitized Asian redwork designs from my sketches to use as quilt stitches. I scattered the orchids, peacocks,dragons and Asian symbols throughout the background and then free-style quilted around these stitch-outs. |

 Detail of Face and Fan I free-style stitched the face for this quilt. I also digitized an orchid for her hair. I stitched this out on tulle and then stitched it into place. The orchid I used in her hair can be found in the Florals Section of my Embroidery Designs! |
After I had the border in place, I created chop stitcks for her hair and then added beads and tassels! |
 Detail Digitized Border I created an embroidered border for this quilt comprised of tiny fans. I selected colors from the required 'Orchid' fabric and stitched the continuous border on Taffita in those colors The border used for this quilt (and others!) can be found in the Borders Section of my Embroidery Designs! |
After I stitched-out the border to the lengths I needed, I sewed them to my quilt I then hand-sewed a freshwater pearl into the centers of the border design! |
