Questions and commissions. |
Since I had already spent a few months coming up with an idea that I liked, I didn't want to loose more time to poor-planning. So, I did a full-sized drawing for this quilt. The idea of a masked figure brings to mind New Orleans or Venice. I deceided on Venice because, at the time I started Venetian Disguise, I had not been to Venice but imagined it to be amazing! And, having just recently returned from an Italian vacation with a stop in Venice, I can say it is so much more than I could ever have imagined!
I had planned to have the mask on the face and needed to layout the areas of the quilt around the figure. I had wanted to try out my machines 500+ stitches and I figured this would give me a great opportunity! I knew I would need a drawing on the silk fabric background because without it, I would get lost. So after I drew the entire canal scene, I layed the silk on the floor, covered it with carbon paper face down, layed my drawing down and traced over the entire design. When I was finished, I had strong straight lines I could follow.
